Southern Highlands Walking Tracks
Just an hour or two southwest of Sydney by train or car, the South Highlands are a charming old collection of farming villages and forest ranges. Cool and wet in winter, the area contains dry eucalyptus forests, rainforests and numerous English-style gardens filled with European trees that present a rich show as their leaves fall each autumn.
Covered in lakes, rivers and dams, the area is lush and full of wildlife, always popular with camping families hoping for a glimpse of the local kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and sometimes even a platypus.
An easy day-trip from Sydney, the Morton National Park contains a fun collection of bush walks to try – Bundanoon, Kangaroo Valley and Cambewarra are good starting points.
