Walking Track Description
Just a 20 minute walk from Springwood train station in the Blue Mountains, Fairy Dell is a cool, tranquil grove of ferns and native trees that skirt a creek as it trickles down to Magdala Gully.
Once a popular escape from the summer heat for early settlers of the Blue Mountains, Fairy Dell is a soothing place to sit and relax. It is quiet, shady and verdant, filled with small birds, and is a fun, safe place for young children to explore.
From Springwood Station, head south to Springwood Avenue, where the start of the walk is signed and mapped. Follow the access road past picnic tables and a small hall, until the gravel track commences and descends into Magdala Gully.
The track follows Magdala Creek for roughly 1 km where it reaches a T-junction and a wooden bridge. To the west is Fairy Dell and Picnic Point, with its carpark and picnic area.
Another kilometre south of the junction is Lawson’s Lookout, a rock shelf perched above the valley below, offering views and a secluded spot for a picnic. Not far north of Lawson’s Lookout is the end of Raymond Rd, which can be followed all the way back to Springwood village and the train line.
